K9 Forever Dog Training

K9 Forever Dog Training is based in North Alton and proudly serves clients throughout the Annapolis Valley area.

I have been training dogs for over 30 years and bring extensive knowledge and hands-on experience working with all breeds. I began my training career in the United Kingdom, working with pet dogs every Sunday alongside my mentor, Pam Holley. From the very beginning, I found great satisfaction in helping owners better understand their dogs and in seeing the pride and joy that comes from watching a dog reach its full potential.

I later joined the Police K9 Unit in the U.K., where I worked two German Shepherds in Patrol and a Labrador Retriever in Explosive Detection. In addition to serving as a Handler, I was also an Instructor responsible for the development and training of operational police dogs, mentoring handlers to meet the highest professional standards.

After emigrating to Canada in 2008, I continued my career training Search and Rescue dogs. I am a Canadian National Evaluator for Disaster Search & Rescue dogs and an instructor with Colorado Rapid Avalanche Deployment, where I specialize in developing young puppies into operational Avalanche Dogs.

In June 2024, I moved to Nova Scotia and established K9 Forever Dog Training in North Alton.

Services Offered

I specialize in all aspects of dog training, including:

  • Dog reactivity

  • Leash pulling

  • Anxiety

  • Resource guarding

  • Jumping and biting

  • Food manners

  • General obedience

  • Puppy foundation training

My passion is working with dogs to strengthen the special bond between owners and their pets. I understand the importance of your dog’s mental and physical well-being, and my goal is to see a happy, confident, and content dog at the end of every training session.

I am committed to continual professional development, regularly attending seminars and completing online education to stay current with modern training techniques. I have attended the Penn Vet Working Dog Center on numerous occasions and have co-instructed a Train the Trainer course there, helping other trainers reach their full potential.

My training philosophy is balanced, with a strong emphasis on positive reinforcement. I recognize that every dog is an individual, and each training plan is tailored to suit the specific needs of both the dog and the owner. I offer personalized one-on-one training designed to build clarity, consistency, and confidence.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is teaching clients how to read their dog’s body language and helping them understand what their dog can achieve with the right mental stimulation, structure, and consistency. Our dogs are constantly reading us — and when we learn to better understand them, the partnership becomes stronger and more fulfilling.

If you feel stuck, unsure of your next step, or simply want to strengthen your relationship with your dog, I would be happy to help.

Have a great day — and happy training!

Jessie

Hi there! I was adopted from the Cochrane Humane Society in Alberta, in 2015. Back in the day, I went to work with my Mom at the vet clinic, and that’s where I earned my famous title: “Boss Dog” because someone had to keep an eye on her and her team!

These days, I’m happily retired and love hanging out with my sister Glory (though I still make sure she knows who’s in charge!). My favourite things include long walks, sniffing every corner, and of course, the occasional squirrel chase. Life is all about fun, family, and a bit of adventure!

I am a Level 2 Certified Disaster Search and Rescue dog and also certified in Ground Search and Rescue. I’m currently a proud member of Canada Task Force 5 K9 team in Halifax, and before that, I served with Canada Task Force 2 in Calgary. I am one of only 21 dogs in Canada certified to respond to disasters at the Federal level.

In addition, I’m a member of Vancouver Island Search Disaster Dogs of Canada, which allows me to deploy to international disaster zones around the world.

Despite my serious work credentials, I have a wonderful “off switch.” At home, I love snuggling on the couch, playing fetch, and relaxing while watching TV. Hard work and fun go hand in paw!
